Mariko Miyata Jancey (born 1989, Norway) graduated with a Bachelors degree in Contemporary and Modern dance with pedagogy, from The Norwegian College of Dance in 2013. She works with her own artistic projects, as a performing artist and a dance teacher.
From 2013 until today she has worked on a solo project, “Røtter, greiner og nye kvister”, resulting in so far four solo-pieces and several work-in-progress showings. In this project she worked with memories and experiences from her life, manifested in different grades of abstraction, in elements as movement, text, film and soundclips. During this period she has become mother to two girls, and this has been thematically essential in the project. In 2016 the project has been developed as a part of TekstLab incubator, supported by Talent Norge.
With TekstLab she has shown and worked with several small pieces exploring different ideas and methods.
In 2015 she choreographed a 50 minute piece called “synk” for six dancers, with music composed by Hans Uhre.
